This historic time warp is as it was 120 years ago. Great Victorian architecture fills the town. Today's steam locomotives on the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are 75 years old and the coaches are vintage 1880. Thirty six miles west of town are sandstone cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park dating back to AD 1200. These were the homes of the ancestral Puebloans, often called Anasazi.  Ski at Durango Mountain Resort, approximately 12 miles from the town of Durango.

The line was contructed to haul silver/gold ore and passengers from Durango to Silverton and back. You can choose to ride the open-air Gondola Car, the Parlor car offering croissants, juice, coffee or champange. The Elegent Private Cars has accommodations for up to 18 guests and the Cinco Amimas can carry up to 25 passengers. What fun to ride in the Caboose, it can carry 8 people. This historic train has been carrying passengers for over 120 years.
